Responsible Environmental Management NWT

The goal is to empower citizens to share their input and insights with government decision-makers, as they create new rules that will shape and improve the environmental health of the Northwest Territories.  This website is hosted by Ecology North.

This website will update you on what’s happening right now, what’s at stake with each piece of legislation, regulations and significant policy, and how you can have your say to guide these new rules.

As an informed NWT resident with valuable lived experience, you are exactly the type of expert needed to give feedback on proposed laws and policies that will govern resource development and environmental protection, now and in the future.

This website does not have information about specific projects, applications, permits, or licences.  However, you should find the information here helpful in identifying where to look and how to contact possible co-management bodies, government departments or other regulators.

The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) is currently developing new or updated legislation to take on responsibilities it assumed from the federal government in the April 2014 devolution agreement.

The GNWT signed this agreement so future decisions about NWT lands, waters and natural resources could be made by the people who actually live in the Northwest Territories.

There are also other governments, agencies and boards that have some responsibility for environmental management in the NWT and this website covers some of their important legislative, regulatory and policy changes and how you can have input into those decisions.

This website will update you on what’s happening right now, what’s at stake with each piece of legislation, and how you can have your say to guide these new rules.
