Federal legislation

Even with the Government of the Northwest Territories’ (GNWT) Devolution Agreement in 2014, decisions in Ottawa continue to have a major effect on environmental protection, land and water management, and resource development in the NWT.

Regulations are often needed to help implement legislation and provide greater flexibility to make changes but public input is not necessarily required.  For more information on how regulations are made see Making the Rules.
